Help Save The Environment - Build Your Own Solar Panel

Help Save The Environment - Build Your Own Solar Panel

by Davion Wong

There are many ways to show your concern to our planet or
make a contribution in energy conservation and one of these
ways is by learning how to build your own solar panel. In
fact, people should start doing something in order to combat
the rising oil cost and electricity cost. Alternative energy
sources should be considered in order to make a difference
in saving the environment.

A solar panel is a device that can convert solar energy to
electricity. It is an effective alternative energy source.
It requires a stream of a variety of wavelengths of light,
such as sunlight, in addition to low temperatures. It is
also referred to as an eco-friendly source of energy. To
date, more and more people are considering its potential and
importance.

One of the things that concerns people regarding the use of
solar panels is that they think that it is expensive. In
fact, a basic solar panel system can cost around $40,000.
However, there is no need to shed of such amount just to
have a solar panel in your home. There is a cheaper and
practical solution and that is through home-built solar
panel.

You should be aware that you can build your own solar panel.
It is expensive to make use of highly refined silicon which
is required to construct highly efficient solar energy
equipment. Processed silicon is costly and its production is
a difficult process. However, it is not the only element
that is capable of exhibiting photoelectric effect.

Still, the element silicon is not the only one that can
exhibit photoelectric effect. Other elements like cuprous
oxide are likewise photovoltaic. Although they are not as
efficient in producing electricity flow, they are mostly
available in numerous hardware stores. Given this fact, if
you want to supply more energy required in other solar
equipments, it is feasible to come up with a solar panel the
really works.

Building your own solar panel does not mean that you have to
spend a lot of money for it. You only need to buy several
materials that are easily available in most hardware shops
such as copper flashing, electric shears, solar cells,
plywood, glass, silicon, wire, solder, sandpaper and UV
protector.

In building a solar panel, you will learn several new things
such as how to design and build PV cells, solder cell
connections and even customize panel output. Moreover, you
will also become aware of how to test and rate PV cells and
repair damages or solar cells. You can search the net for
easy-to-follow instructions so you can get started.
